Lunch in the Garden

5 Sep

Stella McCartney designs the lovliest lingerie, don’t you agree?  This bra & knicker set is so refined in classic shapes and textiles. I think the bra would be lovely worn under a sheer chiffon shirt, flowers and colors peeking through.  Very luxurious.  These pieces would be investments, for sure, and extremely wearable.

Lunch in the Garden

This ensemble is all about lunching in a garden, embracing nature and the quiet conversations of flowers and insects.  Be well, be calm, my dears.

M. Daguerre

2 Sep

On various mornings, Louisa awakes with a sense of darkness that hovers in her dreams and follows her throughout the day. Lonely strains of concerto music float in the corners of her awareness, building and crashing, reminding her to breathe. Louisa comforts herself with literature and photography; her one-room apartment is stacked to the ceiling with books. She has imaginary conversations with Monsieur Daguerre, whom she is deeply (and secretly) in love with, despite death, dirt and centuries separating him from her.  She carries his picture in a delicate silver locket, worn around her neck, which she never removes.

Louisa carries a parasol wherever she goes, rain or shine; it covers her in a somber patina of gloom and dusk. She dresses herself each day as if preparing for a lover, draped in romantic shapes and colors. She catches the eye of many but returns no one’s gaze.

Louisa sets a rickety table with tea, each day at four in the afternoon. If she were still a child, she’d occupy the empty seats with her overly-loved dolls, their eyes turned down from weariness, or perhaps jaded exasperation. Alas, Louisa is a grown woman in body, and a ghost in spirit. She sips her tea from a half-shattered porcelain cup which she found buried in the dirt of her backyard; she had delicately peeled the pieces from the mud, glued them back together, and admired her handy-work with a tinge of smugness. That is until she saw the flaw: a large chunk was missing. She had to be careful not to spill tea on her dress!  Of course, much like the fantasy tea-parties of her youth, there is no tea. There is no sugar. There is nothing but Louisa and the idol of her mind.

Summer Haze

1 Sep

Running errands just got a little more colorful. As summer tickles the toes of fall, warmer hues and rich colors are begging to be worn. The leaves will start to change their colors soon, turning from rich green to mellow brown, mustard yellow, and a burgundy so rich that it’s almost blue.

Step out for the day, and enjoy the last few warm, hazy summer days and cool nights; pack a lightweight scarf in your bag, and wear those tank tops for a few more weeks.  Its not time to pull out the sweaters just yet!

Summer Haze

Stay mellow, friends.

Sunday in Bed

28 Aug

Here we are on another rainy day.  I’m lucky in that Hurricane Irene slowed her fury down by the time she arrived in my backyard.  Lots of wind and a bit of rain, but we’re no worse for the wear, thank goodness.  I’m reading reports of major flooding, houses washing away, and it strikes me that writing about lingerie isn’t the best use of compassion, but I am, if nothing else, a seeker of comfort when terrible things happen.

When it’s dreary and rainy outside, my favorite thing to do is lay in bed with a good book, wearing as little as possible, for maximum comfort. Today I’m huddled under the covers in knee-high socks (my legs get cold!), a pair of skimpy silk tap-pants, and a silk bra. When it’s time for jaunts to the kitchen for refills of tea and plates of banana bread, I throw on a black silk robe.

Sunday in Bed

On a happier note, after I’m done with a Sunday full of EPIC relaxation, I’m embarking on a two-week vacation from work, wherein I hope to accomplish many things which have been languishing on my to-do list. Not least of all, getting back on track with this lovely blog.  I have let far too much time go by without updates, and that makes me sad!  I have some new features planned, which I hope you’ll just love!

In the meantime, my Mister just brought in a fresh peach from the backyard, which I can’t wait to bite into! So, it’s back to bed for me now; my book and the Mister are calling my name!

Happy Sunday my darlings.
