Loose Buttons: Super Long Friday Edition

25 Feb

There are many, many loose buttons this week!  I’ve had lots of internet time I suppose!  I do get things done however, I assure you.  ; )

♥ I would be keeping a delicious secret if I didn’t share this amazing raw chocolate milkshake recipe from Sarah Britton of My New Roots.

Oh my goodness, this milkshake is sooo yummy.  I know it might seem indulgent at first, but you can’t go wrong with banana, avacado, chia seeds and cashews.  Add in the antioxident-rich cacao powder and you’ve got superfood!  The cacao could be substituted with coconut milk and orange juice for a sunshine explosion smoothie!  Over.the.top!

♥ Sarah’s food blog in general has had such an impact upon my dietary landscape, as well as Shutterbean, Golubka, and Rawmazing.  While I’m not quite to the stage of dehydrating all of my food, I certainly do eat a mostly raw diet.  Not gonna lie though, I am still trying to give up meat.  But I’ve succeed in quitting sugar, bread, wheat & dairy (though I am weak in the vicinity of goatsmilk cheese).  I’ve replaced all of that with delicious, healthy options and I am so happy!

♥ I’m quite smitten with the photography of Jane Heller, especially her ‘Vintage Boudoir’ series.

♥ I can’t get enough of this article, Send In The Gowns’, from February 2010 which appeared in LA Times Magazine. I’m fascinated by the evolution of the ‘gown’ throughout Hollywood & film history. The 90s were soooo bad, yikes!  I am all the more grateful for a return to old-world charm & style in fashion. Let’s never revisit 90’s fashion, okay? Aside from the that, the article is also a great resource of classic films to watch (perhaps for the first time, or revisiting old favorites).

♥ This Calvin & Hobbes “motivational” poster is so bittersweet. When I was a young lass, I was addicted to C&H cartoons and loved to imagine what kind of adult Calvin would grow up to be. I always believed he’d never forget Hobbes.  I am now completely reassured that childhood dreams and imagination are not forgotten, only passed down to children.

♥ Have you seen Craft Gawker? Its a really fantastic aggregater of DIY craft projects, home decorating ideas, a plethora of etsy products, and lots of up-and-coming artists & designers.  Its not completely commercial, and there’s a large number of DIY tags to work your imagination into a froth.

Here are a few of my favorite projects from Craft Gawker:

Indoor Tabletop water garden

Ruffle Necklace

Bookpaper Wreath

♥ I love the haunting artwork of Albert Lee; the shading, light-work, and realism is stunning.  There’s a kind of deadly look in ‘Wednesday Adams’ eyes, the apathetic daughter, darkly psychopathic.  The shimmering water and candlelight in ‘Girl, tub’ is a bit hypnotizing.

♥ Oh my, California Home Design’s website is soooo drool-worthy.

A Compendium of Beards!

Cute idea for gift-giving! Make your own vanilla extract!

♥ This Russian Blog and this painting.  Does anyone recognize this, or know the artist?  LOVE LOVE LOVE.

♥ This performance by Andrew Bird at Nigel Godrich’s studio.  Bird’s solo-performances are so incredible to watch; he lays down his own tracks, loops and weaves different instruments together seamlessly.  He’s also adorably dapper, plays in his socks, and puts over-tired babies to sleep.  Not that I have a baby!  I’ve just heard that from moms who do!!

♥ Nigel Godrich’s “From The Basement” dvd & videos.  Radiohead, Sonic Youth, PH Harvey, QOtSA & so many more have all recorded in his studio, filmed in HD.  You might remember that Dead Weather debuted in the UK live from Nigel’s studio with a 20 minute set.  Pretty neat.  The videos are GREAT.

Well kittens, I hope I’ve kept you busy, inspired, electrified & radiated!  Get out there and dance!

Wednesday Mentionables

24 Feb

Hello darlings! I hope this post of “mentionables” finds you well! What are “mentionables” you ask? Well, they are posts where I ponder anything & everything that is taking up space in my head! They might be personal in flavor, or just silly little conversation starters. A “midnight ramble”, if you will (would the Levon Helm fans please stand up)!

As you are well aware by now, I LOVE lingerie and frippery. I enjoy sharing that passion with others, and its my dream to bring gorgeous lingerie into the lives of women & men all over the world. At the moment, while I build my foundation, my outlet for sharing my adoration is through this blog.

I believe in honoring ethics and integrity. I feel its worth mentioning that any ads, products, or opinions posted here do not stem from endorsements, sponsorships, pats on the back, or anything of the sort. All of my posts are inspired by what I am naturally drawn to, but also from a desire to stay connected to the industry, promote independent designers, share cute “finds” with others, and explore the wonderful world of lingerie!

My intentions are to some day in the future, open a lingerie boutique in the metro Boston area, and also online. Of course this blog will be integrated into that business as it evolves. However, it is NOT my intention to be 100% commercialized all the damn time, nor is it my intention to heavily monetize the blog. While its nice to collect click-revenue, that really isn’t my goal. I’m here to collect bras & panties, tights & socks, rompers & knickers, friends & foes. Yes, even foes. They wear underwear too, don’t they!?

My dream is to build a community that revolves around body positivity, creativity & confidence, healthy relationships & friendships, self-love, and most importantly: personal growth. All while wearing amazing lingerie.

♥ ♥ ♥

I will say that as this blog grows and I learn my way, I am still learning how to effectively manage photos & content credits. I’m a little freaked out by Design Sponge’s ‘We Can Do It‘ series covering blogging ethics. Not in a negative way, but in a “I hope I’ve been doing all I can to give proper credit” kind-of-way.

I’ve been very diligent about giving credit in my posts & content thus far, but one can never be too careful! Respecting people’s rights is sexy! I vow to be more cautious about getting photo credits and permissions going forward. Nothing bad has happened! Its only fair & right to give shout outs and love to all those amazing people creating art everyday.

In the spirit of a “words-only” post, here are a few tid-bits that I’ve been enjoying.

♥ The Panache-Cleo Spring/Summer11 collection is sure to be welcome in your underwear drawer, with bras up to a J-cup, many pretty florals and bright contrasting prints. The panties look super comfy and I like the shape and support of the bras. Full coverage never looked so sexy. I’m a fan!

Velda Lauder, corset-maker to the stars, has published a new book aptly titled “Corsetry: A Modern Girl’s Guide“, which looks to be an exquisite tome extolling the virtues and eternal appeal of waist cinching. Some sources say that the focus of the book is on the historical emergence of corsetry, as well as analyzing why the female psyche is so drawn to tightlacing, and modern sexuality. Even if the book is, as one amazon-review wrote, “self-amused”, it has got to be a fascinating perspective from the woman who has become the bridal & burlesque Queen.

♥ The CurveNY/Moda Lingerie & Swimwear show wrapped up yesterday in NYC, and I’m bummed that I wasn’t able to go this year. It sounded liked a really fun time too; there was a 13-piece swing band and the first day of the event. How cool is that?! I’m very excited to see new collections for spring & summer; I’ve seen some previews and there is lot of stunning lingerie on the spring horizon!

♥ Behind the scenes, I am devoting a lot of my time to research & development of the Mairose brand. If you don’t hear from me in a while, I’m off in proposal-land where the dishes are always dirty and the house is never cleaned! ; (

Until next time.

Dream Dress

21 Feb

In other, completely non-lingerie related news, and also falling into the category of “in your dreams lady” comes this beautiful gown from Georges Hobeika 2011 Haute Couture collection.

Could I please get married in this, and then wear it on a constant basis?

I think I was born in the wrong millennium.

Panty of the Day: Daphine

21 Feb

Oops, where did the day go? Here I am, on the tail-end of a long holiday weekend, and no panty-of-the-day post to be had!  Its been a busy & productive day.  Besides taking care of some chores around the house (and in the checkbook), I was fortunate enough today to find time for a relaxing bubble bath and get a massage from a dear friend who is gathering up practice hours for her Therapy license. I also fed my body delicious (and madly healthy) juice, a huge spinach salad, and chicken sauteed with rainbow chard. I’m sure you don’t give a hoot about what I ate, but its

Spring is such an exciting time in the lingerie world. All of the new collections are appearing on the scene, like so many rolls of fabric tumbling open, fluttering in the wind, all drama & sumptuousness! Make way, make way! There are new rompers & knickers for play!

Ayten Gasson’s new Spring collection is small but lovely, and quite true to their signature 1930’s gamine style with frosty new colors that are perfect for the fairer seasons.  Celadon greens, deep-fushia, midnight black, blush pink, and cream silks round out the collection of intriguing garments.  Perhaps more stunning is the lace work, which itself comes with an interesting and historical twist, being supplied by “one of the last remaining lace makers in Nottingham, Roger Watson, who supplied lace for both Diana Princess of Wales and Sarah Ferguson’s wedding dresses.”

Don’t these make you just want to lay in bed all day long, weaving flowers into crowns and reading Emily Bronte?

PS.  Don’t miss Ayten Gasson’s clearance sale for a chance to scoop up last season’s beautiful offerings.  I’ve been coveting the Liberty tap pant and matching bra.  Hmmmmm…..spring fling?

Until next time my dears!
